Treasures in Heaven

This is an exciting time in the life of First Baptist Church of Grand Cayman!

June 10-17th 2007 we celebrated thirty years of ministry at the church.  For thirty years, the Lord has blessed and cared for the people of First Baptist Church.  Thirty years of prayer… thirty years of preaching… thirty years of singing God’s praises… thirty years of evangelism, discipleship, and missions… and thirty years of serving the greater Cayman Islands.  From a small group of 21 people gathered in a living room to a diverse congregation of over 25 nationalities, the Lord has and continues to bless us.
As we approached the 30th anniversary the church launched a new effort to eliminate our remaining debt and to multiply our investment in gospel ministry here in the Cayman Islands and around the world through gospel missions.
We set a goal of paying off our remaining debt of C.I. $1 million.
Hurricane Ivan (a category 5) leveled the island, including the church, on September 11, 2004.  Following the hurricane, a couple of major insurance companies went under, failing to pay out claims by many business and individuals.  Two insurers for First Baptist Church went under, and in order to get up and running again the church had to take on more debt for repairs.  To God be the glory!  We’re up and running again but with significant debt that seriously hampers our cash flow as a church.
However, the campaign is not merely about eliminating debt.  The vision is much bigger.  Eliminating the debt means the ability to invest approximately $425,000 U.S. per year in seminary education, missionaries, short-term missions trips and much-needed staff.
The anniversary celebration and the effort to eliminate the debt were all about rejoicing in the past faithfulness of God and looking forward to yet more grace and ministry in the Name of the Lord!
We invite friends and supporters of First Baptist Church and the work of the Lord here, to consider doing two things: (1) praying for the Lord’s blessing and guidance in our effort; and (2) contributing to our aim of eliminating the debt and investing in the work of the gospel.
If 200 people or churches would pledge and contribute C.I. $5,000 ($6,250 U.S.) over the next year, we would eliminate the debt this year!  Or if 400 people would pledge and contribute C.I. $2,500 ($3,125 U.S.) over the next year, we would reach our goal!  Every contribution counts and no contribution is too small.
